Senifood project is one of the R&D cooperative programmes approved by the Science and Innovation Ministry as a part of CENIT-E (Consorcios Estratégicos Nacionales en Investigación Técnica).
The purpose of the project is to define a range of foods specifically designed for the elderly allowing for the development of a balanced diet in this sector of the population.
From a scientific standpoint, the aim is to advance in understanding the effect the ingredients have on the most common diseases in the elderly. From the technical point of view, on the other hand, it is aimed to join functional properties with the physical-chemical characteristics (texture and fluidity) and organic characteristics (taste and aroma) of the products, so they can be properly, simply and enjoyably consumed.
The Ingredients Division of Naturex, is heading the project that will be developed over a period of four years (2009-2012) in a consortium of companies formed by various R+D groups and ingredients producers and food products (Biopolis, Biobiótica, Ordesa Group, Corporación Alimentaria Peñasanta (Capsa- dairy company), Campofrío, Fundación Matía and Mugaritz, amongst others). The project also involves research centres, technological centres and the major universities focusing in the field of nutrition in the various Autonomous Communities.
